Following his mother's footsteps in running small businesses, Jimmy demonstrated his entrepreneurial spirit early on. Between 1992 and 1994, while pursuing his undergraduate studies in the US, Jimmy ventured into the trading sector. He established and operated various trading enterprises, specializing in exporting Indonesian products and aiding Indonesian exporters to expand their market presence in the US. In 1996, during his graduate studies and tenure as president of PERMIAS, Jimmy honed his financial expertise as an Assistant to the Financial Controller at MG West in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he supported the management of financial and accounting operations. Jimmy's leadership flourished as he took on the role of Chief Financial Officer at IFM Graha Sarana, an affiliated company to MG West in Indonesia, from March 1997 to February 1999, leading a team in streamlining the company's financial processes. Parallel to his financial career, Jimmy started his career as an educator, sharing his knowledge as a part-time lecturer in Management at Indonusa Esa Unggul University, showcasing early signs of his commitment to education and nurturing the next generation of professionals in the following years.

In 1999, Jimmy joined a global productivity improvement consulting firm, IMPAC (Improved Management Profitability and Control), as a management engineer and quickly rose through the ranks to become the Vice President and Chief Analyst of the Asia Pacific Region at 28 years old, the youngest for the position globally. During his time at IMPAC, Jimmy assisted dozens of multinational corporations from various industries (textile, plywood, electronics, airlines, food, garment, hospital, etc) in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, and Thailand, in their efforts towards productivity and profitability improvement, a period of time which significantly impacted his future career trajectory as a leader and a change-maker.

After his three-year tenure at IMPAC, Jimmy moved on to a new era of his career to become an entrepreneur, establishing Proven Force Indonesia on January 6 2003 as the consulting arm of President University Foundation, with the valuable support of Jababeka Group, focusing on productivity improvement as in line with his background. Six years into the business, Jimmy was able to grow the once one-man firm into a sizable firm with a diversified offering, multiple offices in Jabodetabek, and managing thousands of employees.

As Proven Force Indonesia grew and became stable, Jimmy explored a crucial opportunity to enter a new period of his career in the Government's State-Owned Enterprise or BUMN in 2009. He was chosen to become the president director & CEO of Indonesia's oldest department store, Sarinah, which operates in the business of retail, trading (export, import and domestic trade) and property management. Jimmy transformed the business model of the company and developed its strategic plan to be implemented for growth. He also became a member of the board of commissioner for PT Sariarthamas Hotel International to supervise its performance and directs strategic decision by working together with the Board of Directors. In 2012, Jimmy, envisioning a future to contribute in the public sector, resigned to pursue his education in public administration at Harvard University. Towards the end of his studies in 2013, he became a teaching assistant for the Mason Fellows Summer Seminar.

Upon his return, Jimmy took on the role of executive director at IPMI International Business School, leading a remarkable turnaround that transformed its financials from operational loss, negative cash flow, and negative equity condition to operational profit, positive cash flow and positive equity. Furthermore, Jimmy led the institution's significant improvement in terms of national ranking and international recognition through strategic partnerships, enhanced faculty expertise, national accreditation efforts, and innovative program offerings .

Continuing his journey of impact, Jimmy co-founded Orbitin, a startup aimed at supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in Indonesia, in partnership with Tempo Media Group. This initiative demonstrates his ongoing commitment to economic development and the support of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Indonesia.

At the end of 2023, Jimmy has turned his focus towards advancing education and leadership development in Indonesia, becoming the Chief Executive Officer of Bakrie Center Foundation, a private sector initiative under the Bakrie Group, that provides Indonesia’s best and brightest with a chance to study for a higher education at some of the best universities at home and abroad. In 2024, Jimmy further expanded his leadership portfolio when he was appointed President Commissioner of Fintopia Indonesia (Easycash), a subsidiary of Fintopia Inc. With a mission to offer accessible financial services, particularly to the unbanked and underbanked, Easycash has disbursed over Rp53.91 trillion in funding since its founding in 2017, reaching more than 6.3 million recipients as of July 2024.
